Useful Design Tools & Resources - Part 1

In this article I've listed my top tools and resources for design and development.

Make sure to save this post as I can ensure these tools and resources will come in handy both throughout your course and in your future career! And don't miss the upcoming part 2 of this article.

DESIGN TOOLS

Figma is a web-based graphics editing and user interface design app. It is a great free tool to use and can replace payed programs like Adobe Illustrator. You can use Figma to create prototypes, wireframing and much more. The fact that it is free and mainly web-based makes it incredibly popular.

"For people and teams wanting to design absolutely anything, from logos and social media content to documents, prints and more."

One of my personal favourites is Canva. It's easy to use and it comes with a huge range of different designs and resources. One great thing about Canva is that they offer pre-designed templates which makes it easy, even as a beginner, to make your design look professional.

If you have a premium Canva account you cn use the built in remove background tool. But then you would have to pay for your account. But don't worry there is a free tool that you can use - and that's remove.bg!

If you want to download a high resolution image without background Experte Background Remover is the choice for you.

Miro is an online whiteboard platform that helps you visualize your projects and share with your team. You can create up to three boards for free and choose from a wide range of templates. Miro is web based so there is no need for any app installation.

STOCK IMAGES

"Over 2 million free high-resolution images brought to you by the world’s most generous community of photographers."

Unsplash is a great place to find professional images you can use for your project.

Just like Unsplash Pixabay is a also a place where you can find stock images for free that you can use in your projects.

Pexels is another place where you can find free stock images and also videos.

Note! If you work on a professional project that's not only for personal use make sure that you check the licens for the images you use even though you got them through free websites. License for images can change over time and it's common that people who use images where the license no longer is valid get charged.

COLOR

Coolors is a really cool and fast color generator. You can browse for inspiration or start the generator to find your favourite palette.

Colormind is a fantastic generator, especially for beginner web developers, as it not only gives you a suggested color palette but you also get to see how you actually can implement the color palette on your web page!

This is my go to for color inspiration! The great thing about ColorSpace is that you provide the color generator with one hex color and it generates different styles of color palettes for you based on the color you provided. You can also generate gradients and get the css code at ColorSpace.
